Fill in the form to begin your membership. Membership allows you to borrow items and access our digital online resources.
You'll need a physical address, and if you are 17 or under, you'll need an adult to be your guarantor. The adult will need to visit the library with their ID and proof of address to collect the junior/teen card.
If you don't have a permanent physical address, please contact us for assistance.
(By law, you are not required to provide personal information. However, if you do not supply all the information requested on the application, we may be unable to process your application to provide you with membership).
After completing the form, bring your photo ID & proof of address to collect your membership card (this applies to adults & guarantors).
Identification accepted includes: drivers' license, firearm license, passport, Kiwi Access card, 18+ card or, if those are unavailable, valid Community Services or Gold Card. Birth certificates & student IDs are not accepted.
If you don't have any form of identification, you can choose to be a digital only member OR have a Justice of the Peace sign a statutory declaration form and bring that.
When you pick up your card we will activate your membership for a period of 2 years. At the 2 year point we will ask you to confirm your contact details to keep your membership active. After 3 years of non-use, the membership is automatically deleted.
There are several ways to borrow items:
Self-Service Kiosks
Available at Dannevirke, Woodville & Pahiatua, the self-service kiosks can be used with your membership card, or manually with your membership number.
The kiosk does not tell you if you've had that item before, so if that is important to you, please check out at the desk.
See us at the desk
We still love to see you, so feel free to come to the desk to borrow items if you prefer.
We are a fines free service. Please be respectful of loan periods as someone might have a hold on your item and be waiting for you to return it.
If you have an item out longer than 4 weeks, we will assume you have lost it. Lost items will be charged at the purchase price, and the membership blocked until the item is returned or paid for.
Renewing: Most items can be renewed twice (providing no one has a hold on the item). If you’ve lost your due dates slip, you can use the tools below to check when your items are due back.
Holds: Placing a hold (reserve) is free. The hold item will be delivered to your local library, and we will notify you when it's ready for pick up.
You can search for the item in our catalogue. Log into your account either on the catalogue site or using our app to place a hold. You can also suspend the hold, which means the hold won't trigger until after the end of the suspension period.
Hold items are held for you for 10 calendar days then the hold automatically cancels, if it hasn't been picked up.
There are many ways you can manage your borrowing:
- Through your online account with your membership number and pin - search, place holds, check due dates and renew items
- In the library on a self-check kiosk - renew items
- Through the library app available on Google Play or Apple Store on any device that supports apps - search, place holds, check due dates, renew items and manage children’s items
- We are also here to help you - either visit, call or send us an email.
Either place items in the returns area inside or put them through the afterhours return slot.
Tech kits & board games - please return only during open hours.
Libraries Tararua items can be returned to any of our branches (Dannevirke, Woodville, Pahiatua or Eketāhuna).
Return Shelf in Dannevirke
Our return shelf is a smart shelf – it reads RFID tags and instantly returns item/s.
Read our Membership Terms & Conditions.
